          This was the total number of persons suspected of being mentally ill who were tasered by officers.

          This is the total number of persons who requested that the police kill them and/or attempted by their physical actions to get the officers to shoot them.

          661 persons self-reported that they were not taking their prescribed medications for their mental illness. The actual number is believed to be much higher.

 

Personal Care Home 107
          107 individuals were transported from a personal care home for mental health treatment.

 

Violent/Threat of Violence 771
          771 individuals either committed an act of violence or threatened to commit an act of violence prior to being transported for mental health treatment.

 

Homeless 189
          189 individuals self-reported being homeless. The actual number is believed to be higher.

          This is the total number of persons who could have been charged with a crime and placed in jail. However, these 814 persons were taken for mental health treatment instead of being placed in the correctional system.

          Out of the 2057 persons brought into the NPC, 188 of these were brought in more than once. Two individuals were brought into the NPC a total of seven times each during 2007.

          Out of the 2057 transports to NPC. 1956 were admitted for evaluation. 71 individuals were referred to Ben Taub, most often due to medical needs. Only 17 persons who were believed to be seriously mentally ill were charged with a crime and taken to the Harris County Jail after being screened by the NPC staff. Only 9 individuals were found not to meet the criteria for emergency detention ( danger to self or others, grave neglect ) and rejected at the NPC.
